The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a strong advisory to residents of flood-prone communities in Abia State, urging them to relocate to safer areas in anticipation of severe flooding predicted in the coming weeks.

This warning was contained in a public statement released by the Abia State NSCDC Commandant, Akinsola Aderemi, on Thursday, August 1, 2025, at the Command’s headquarters.

Citing recent forecasts from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the NSCDC alerted the public to the likelihood of significant flooding across parts of the state starting this August.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC II Doreen Udugwu, the NSCDC has activated its Disaster Management Unit to coordinate with Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across all 17 local government areas. The goal is to intensify public sensitization efforts, educating residents on flood risks, safety measures, and emergency preparedness.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Abia residents,” Commandant Aderemi stated. “I assure the public of our officers’ dedication and tireless efforts to safeguard lives and property throughout this critical period.”
