Alice Springs, NT, A 26-year-old man who had been missing for a week in the remote outback west of Alice Springs has been found alive and well, bringing relief to his family and the local community.

Gach Top was discovered in Hermannsburg, a small town located approximately 125 kilometres west of Alice Springs, on Monday. His father, David Kong, confirmed that his wife and daughter had travelled to the town after receiving reports from residents of a possible sighting. They later located Mr Top safe and in good health.

The young man had vanished the previous Monday, prompting a large-scale search by police and emergency services. His vehicle was found abandoned around 14.5 kilometres outside Alice Springs, and authorities scoured a 500 square kilometre area in their search efforts.

However, after days of no success, police suspended the official search on Saturday evening, transferring the case to the NT Police Southern Crime Division for further investigation.

Undeterred, Mr Top’s family and local volunteers continued the search during the Monday public holiday. Their persistence paid off when they were reunited with him in Hermannsburg.

Mr Top is now returning to Alice Springs with his mother and sister. Authorities have not yet released details about how he survived during the week or how he ended up in Hermannsburg.

David Kong expressed immense gratitude to the community members who assisted in the search and offered support during the ordeal.
