President Bola Tinubu has hailed Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for securing a historic seventh African championship title at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The triumphant D’Tigress, under the guidance of Coach Rena Wakama, clinched a decisive 78–64 victory over Mali in an intense final on Sunday night at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the team for bringing immense pride and global acclaim to Nigeria. He applauded their exceptional skill, resilience, and teamwork, which propelled them to a fifth straight AfroBasket title—an unprecedented feat in African basketball history and their seventh championship overall.
