The Kaduna State Police Command has uncovered military-grade unexploded bombs, a loaded pistol, and various ammunition at a scavenger’s depot in the Kudendan Industrial Layout of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The discovery, made on Saturday, August 2, 2025, followed an intelligence alert about suspicious items in a shipment of scrap transported from conflict-ridden Borno State.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, a specialized team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was deployed to the scene. The team, led by its commander, carried out a sweep of the facility and confirmed the presence of unexploded military-grade ordnance.
“The suspicious items were said to have been found within a load of trash recently transported from Borno State,” Hassan stated. “After a thorough assessment, the items were confirmed to be unexploded military-grade ordinance bombs.”
He added that the bombs had since been evacuated to a safe location for controlled demolition in line with standard safety procedures.
In addition to the ordnance, the team recovered:
- One locally fabricated revolver pistol, fully loaded with six rounds,
- Fifteen rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition,
- Three live cartridges, and
- Assorted other ammunition.
In response to the security threat, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, ordered the immediate closure of the depot and a complete sweep of the area to ensure no other hidden explosives remained.
CP Muhammad also issued a stern directive to scavenger companies and scrap dealers across the state, warning against the acceptance of waste consignments originating from crisis zones, especially Borno State.
“All Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have been instructed to monitor scavenger operations within their jurisdictions and to arrest any violators,” the statement warned.
The Commissioner urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially around scrap yards and industrial zones.
“This incident is a reminder that security is everyone’s responsibility. We must all work together to keep our communities safe,” he said.
