Day three of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) 73rd Annual Convention resonated with a compelling call to personal transformation, as the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, delivered a sermon titled “Overcome Yourself.”

Preaching from Proverbs 16:32, Pastor Adeboye stressed that the most crucial battle any Christian must face is the internal struggle against personal weaknesses. He unveiled a five-point strategy for living as a permanent overcomer, urging believers to exercise control over their senses, actions, and desires.

“Guard what you hear, see, say, do, and where you go,” he counseled. Emphasizing the influence of hearing, he said: “Train your ears. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, but fear also enters through what you hear. It’s not how much you hear, but how well you listen.” He also noted that while the media often amplifies negativity, the Gospel remains the true Good News.

On vision, Pastor Adeboye challenged the congregation to focus on divine perspective rather than obstacles: “Victory isn’t about what you see, but how you see it. Are you focused on the mountain, or on the One who existed before the mountain?”

He also underscored the power of speech: “What you speak is what you become. Your words reveal your faith. Stop grumbling—praise instead. Use your mouth to proclaim God’s will and drive out demons.”

Turning to actions, he likened the hands to tools for spiritual warfare, urging believers to keep them pure: “Avoid signing false documents, forging papers, or touching what is unclean. Keep your hands clean, and God will fight your battles.”

Pastor Adeboye concluded with a stern reminder about addressing personal flaws, citing biblical figures such as Moses, whose unchecked anger barred him from the Promised Land, and Solomon, whose unchecked desires led him to declare life meaningless in his later years.

“If you want to remain a champion, tackle your weak point,” he declared. “Life is not a joke. This is serious spiritual warfare.”

Earlier in the evening, Pastor Adeboye also shared joyous news: 50 babies—34 boys and 16 girls—had been delivered at the church’s maternity centre since the convention began, drawing cheers and applause from the congregation.
