Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has called for greater empowerment of South African women, saying it is key to addressing the country’s challenges of poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

Speaking at the EFF’s Women’s Day rally in Secunda, Mpumalanga, earlier today, Malema condemned the widespread failure by some fathers to pay child maintenance, urging that all men who neglect their children must be compelled to provide financial support.

The EFF leader also challenged all provincial departments in Mpumalanga to publish annual reports detailing women’s representation in their workforce and the budget allocated to gender-focused programmes.

Highlighting workplace exploitation, Malema pledged his party’s commitment to protecting and advancing women, with a special focus on domestic workers.

“As we remember the women who rose in defiance on this day in 1956, let us also reflect on the long and painful history of South Africa’s domestic workers. The majority are black women, and they remain the most exploited members of our society,” Malema said.
