A foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has extended an open invitation to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to join the ruling party, describing him as “exceptionally performing.”
In a statement issued in Enugu on Monday on behalf of APC foundation members in the state and the South-East, Okechukwu dismissed recent comments credited to the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, suggesting restrictions on Mbah’s entry into the party.
Quoting Nnaji as saying, “Anybody who wants to run for the governorship of Enugu State, let him come to the APC, we will go to contest, we are waiting for them,” Okechukwu said such remarks should not deter the governor from joining APC.
“His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, and his group are wholeheartedly welcomed into APC Enugu State in line with our great party’s standard convention. They should not be scared by anybody,” Okechukwu stated.
He expressed surprise that Nnaji, who previously hailed from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would “chase away” a performing governor, noting that APC’s goal is to win the Enugu Government House—popularly called the Lion Building—for the first time and align with 23 other APC-controlled states to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Okechukwu urged Nnaji to focus more on his ministerial duties, adding that, “We will not allow Chief Nnaji, who came a distant fourth with 14,575 votes in the last gubernatorial election and secured only 4,722 votes for President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, to rubbish APC again.”
Do you want me to also prepare a crisper, headline-driven version of this story that reads like a political news brief for quick media consumption? That would cut some of the repetition while keeping the punch.
