The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the University of Jos to establish 18 new full-time undergraduate academic programmes, set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement on Tuesday, the institution’s Senior Deputy Registrar, Abdullahi Abdullahi, described the development as a significant expansion of UniJos’ academic portfolio, designed to broaden educational opportunities and address emerging societal and industry needs.

He explained that the approval followed a comprehensive Resource Verification exercise by the NUC, which confirmed that the university possesses the requisite human and material resources to deliver quality education in the new fields.

The newly approved programmes span diverse disciplines, including:

  • Science and Technology: B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Information Systems, B.Sc. Information Technology.
  • Arts and Education: B.A. Philosophy, B.A. Ed. Music Education, B.A. Ed. Fine Arts and Applied Arts Education, B.Ed. Primary Education, B.Sc. Ed. Agricultural Science Education, B.Sc. Ed. Business Education.
  • Health and Applied Sciences: B.RAD. Radiography, D.P.T. Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Pharmacology.
  • Management and Social Sciences: B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, B.Sc. Public Administration, B.Sc. Forensic Science, B.Sc. Social Work.

Abdullahi noted that the programmes are currently approved for full-time undergraduate study only, with possible future expansion into postgraduate levels subject to further NUC approval.

“This milestone reflects UniJos’ dedication to academic excellence and its resolve to equip students with relevant skills to meet the demands of contemporary society,” he added.
