The Abia State Government has extended the deadline for its ongoing revalidation exercise for private schools to August 29, 2025.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, cautioned that any private school that fails to complete the process will be shut down immediately, with no option for appeal.

Ubochi stressed that the revalidation is completely free of charge, warning proprietors not to pay any money to anyone within or outside the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on extortion, urging all private schools in the state to comply promptly.

A source in the education sector in Umuahia disclosed that some private schools, particularly in Umuahia and Aba, have been avoiding the exercise for undisclosed reasons, speculating that they may fear increased government monitoring.
