No Politician, Including Jonathan, Can Defeat Tinubu in 2027 — Presidential Aide Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed the possibility of any political opponent—former President Goodluck Jonathan included—defeating Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Bwala described recent calls for Jonathan to re-enter the presidential race as a calculated attempt to tarnish the former leader’s image. He warned that some individuals pushing for Jonathan’s return are not acting in his best interest.

“I believe some unscrupulous elements are trying to lure former President Goodluck Jonathan back into politics just to destroy the reputation he has worked hard to build globally since leaving office,” Bwala said.

He noted that the political landscape in the South, Jonathan’s home region, is already leaning toward Tinubu, citing the support of several state governors. He also questioned the motives of northern politicians now urging Jonathan to run—many of whom, he pointed out, had previously opposed him.

“These same northern elements urging him to return were the ones who forced him out. Why should he believe their intentions are sincere now?” Bwala queried, adding that Jonathan is likely too wise to fall for such tactics.

Confident in Tinubu’s dominance, Bwala asserted that no political figure in Nigeria currently poses a threat to the president’s re-election chances. “If Jonathan or anyone else decides to run, they will not be able to unseat President Bola Tinubu. The political climate simply doesn’t support it,” he declared.

So far, Jonathan has not made any public statement indicating his interest in the 2027 race.
