Rugby Mourns Legendary Springbok Dawie Snyman

South African rugby is mourning the loss of one of its most respected figures, former Springbok utility back and celebrated Western Province coach Dawie Snyman, who passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 76.

A product of Grey College in Bloemfontein and later the University of Stellenbosch, Snyman’s rugby journey saw him earn a place in the 1971 Springbok touring squad to Australia even before making his provincial debut.

He made his Test debut in 1972 and went on to don the green and gold in 10 Test matches over a five-year span until 1977.

Following his playing days, Snyman carved out an illustrious coaching career. He guided Western Province to an unprecedented five consecutive Currie Cup titles between 1982 and 1986, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s great tacticians.
