The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, featuring both online and in-person options to expand access for eligible voters ahead of future elections.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia on Thursday, the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Chukwuemeka C. Ibeziako, Esq., FCArb., said the initiative underscores INEC’s commitment to credible, free, fair, inclusive, and transparent elections.

Online pre-registration will commence on August 18 via http://cvr.inecnigeria.org, while in-person registration will follow from Monday, August 25, 2025, at all Local Government Area offices and designated centres nationwide. The physical exercise will run on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The CVR will accommodate:

Citizens turning 18 or registering for the first time.

Voters replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Registered voters transferring to new locations.

Updates to personal details such as names or addresses.

Corrections to PVC information.

Ibeziako urged community leaders, civil society organisations, and the general public to sensitise and mobilise eligible Nigerians, stressing that active participation in the CVR is vital to strengthening democracy.

“In synergy, we can strengthen our democracy by ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has the capacity and competence to vote,” he said, describing the CVR as a crucial step toward “making your votes count” and consolidating democratic gains.

The REC reaffirmed INEC’s resolve to uphold impartiality, inclusiveness, and transparency in all electoral processes.
