Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for officially recognising Senator Nenadi Usman as the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, in Umuahia, Otti described INEC’s decision as a welcome and long-overdue development that upholds the judgment of the Supreme Court.
“We are grateful to INEC and to all government agencies that ensured the Supreme Court’s judgment was respected. This action restores order, peace, and cohesion within our party,” Otti said.
He recalled that INEC had earlier filed a counter-affidavit affirming that Julius Abure’s tenure as chairman had expired, insisting that he lacked the locus standi to continue in office. The governor stressed that INEC’s recognition of Usman now paves the way for reconciliation and unity among party members.
“With this development, we can begin the process of reconciliation and restoration. Our members are enthusiastic about working together like a family, and this decision puts us back on the right path,” he added.
Otti urged Abure and his supporters to embrace peace and join forces with the progressive wing of the Labour Party in rebuilding the party.
“The Supreme Court is the highest authority in the land, and once it has spoken, all are bound to comply. Abure should accept the reality, desist from causing confusion, and work with other progressives to move the Labour Party forward,” he said.
