The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued 20 Ghanaian nationals who were trafficked into Nigeria and kept in a compound at Obio Etoi village, Uyo Local Government Area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Wednesday.

According to John, the victims—10 males and 10 females—were rescued on Monday, August 18, after operatives acted on credible intelligence.

She explained that the operation was a joint effort carried out following a formal request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and Interpol.

“At about 4:17 p.m., operatives stormed a well-fenced building in Obio Etoi village, leading to the rescue of 20 Ghanaians, whose identities are being protected,” she stated.

John further revealed that the victims appeared disoriented and were unable to provide useful information, raising suspicions that they may have been hypnotised.

She added that investigations were ongoing and assured that further details would be made public as the case progresses.
