Gaza City Gripped by Famine, Warns Leading Food Crisis Organization

In a stark announcement, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has declared that the largest city in the Gaza Strip, Gaza City, is now facing a severe famine. The organization, known for its expertise in food crises, issued the warning on Friday, raising alarm about the dire conditions in the city. The IPC stated that unless a ceasefire is implemented and restrictions on humanitarian aid are lifted, the famine is likely to spread to other cities in the region, such as Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.

This declaration comes after months of warnings from aid groups and food security experts who have been monitoring the situation in Gaza closely. The IPC report marks the first official recognition that the area has reached a critical level of food insecurity. Despite this, Israel has disputed the assessment, with the foreign ministry denying the existence of a famine in Gaza.

However, the IPC, which is made up of various U.N. agencies, aid organizations, and governments, stands by its findings, stating that there is sufficient evidence to support the declaration of famine in Gaza Governorate. The situation in Gaza remains precarious, and urgent action is needed to address the growing crisis.
