The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, for allegedly trafficking 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa valued at over ₦10 million.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the suspect, a resident of Fagge Local Government Area in Kano State, was arrested on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road. He was reportedly caught by NDLEA operatives from the Kiru Area Command while transporting 19 parcels of the banned substance from Lagos to Kano.

Muhammad-Maigatari revealed that the suspect had been on the agency’s radar for some time and confessed to his involvement in the illicit drug trade. The successful operation, he noted, significantly disrupted the traffickers’ operations, cutting off their revenue and supply chain while limiting funds for further criminal activities.

He added that removing such a large quantity of cannabis from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the negative social and economic impacts of drug abuse. The command, under the leadership of Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, has pledged to intensify surveillance and intelligence-driven operations to combat drug trafficking across the state.
