Who Is the Real Betrayer?

Political commentator, Ferdinand Ekeoma, has taken a swipe at those labeling former Abia State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, as a “betrayer,” insisting that those who failed to keep faith with political agreements are the true culprits.

Ekeoma, in a statement issued on August 24, 2025, argued that promises made to Oko Chukwu by party leaders in 2015 and renewed in 2019 were brazenly discarded when they became inconvenient. He accused the leadership of neglecting commitments while benefitting from Oko Chukwu’s influence in securing massive votes.

According to him, even the only road constructed in Oko Chukwu’s community was poorly executed, now over 50 percent collapsed, leaving the former deputy governor ridiculed by his own kinsmen.

Ekeoma further alleged that the party hierarchy sidelined Oko Chukwu by imposing an unpopular and “inferior” candidate on Abia people, while secretly holding midnight meetings with opposition candidates in Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to trade away the party’s chances in exchange for personal benefits.

He dismissed as “hokum” the claims by “uninformed analysts and sectional irritants” that Oko Chukwu betrayed the party by refusing to back what he described as a “double tragedy” candidate.

“Betrayal is evil,” Ekeoma warned, “and those who betrayed courageous comrades who stood firm in the political jungle must not expect blind loyalty in return.”

He welcomed Oko Chukwu to a new political chapter, hailing him as a principled leader who refused to be used as a pawn.
