Police have arrested two men linked to the killing of Kestell businessman, Mohammed Shamsul Alam, who was gunned down in his shop in February last year.

According to police, four armed men stormed Alam’s shop and opened fire in front of his girlfriend. He was declared dead at the scene. The attackers fled on foot without stealing anything.

Police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring confirmed that the first suspect was arrested on Friday at Makgolokweng Village near Harrismith, while the second suspect was apprehended in Harrismith on Saturday.

Authorities revealed that the second suspect is already out on bail for a separate murder case. Both men, aged in their 30s, are expected to appear in the Kestell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August, facing murder charges.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the remaining two suspects still at large.
