The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has applauded Governor Uba Sani for recalling some teachers dismissed by the previous administration and urged him to ensure full implementation of the new minimum wage.

NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, made this known while addressing members of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), who are on a Governance Assessment visit to Kaduna.

Recall that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai sacked over 23,000 teachers, including the then National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), during screening exercises conducted in 2018 and 2021.

Suleiman disclosed that the present administration had recalled several Head Teachers, Administrative Staff, and Science Teachers affected by the mass dismissal, adding that efforts to correct the errors of the past government were ongoing.

On the new minimum wage, Suleiman noted that Governor Sani had approved and commenced the payment of N72,000 to workers on levels 1–7. He, however, explained that the state would require over N1.2 billion monthly to fully implement the wage adjustment across all cadres.

The labour leader also commended the governor for deploying 20 buses to provide free transportation for workers and students, a measure aimed at cushioning the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

Meanwhile, NGIJ members are administering questionnaires and interacting with stakeholders across the 23 local government areas of the state as part of the Kaduna Governance Assessment.
