Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has pledged his administration’s full support for the establishment of the proposed Methodist Church University at Umuimenyi, Bende Local Government Area.
Governor Otti made the pledge while receiving the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, at Government House, Umuahia.
He assured the Church that the state would not allow land grabbers to frustrate the project, directing his Deputy Chief of Staff—who hails from Bende—to collaborate closely with the Church in securing the university site.
The Governor lamented the deplorable state of the education sector inherited by his administration, noting that many schools and tertiary institutions across the state were in dire condition.
In his remarks, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, commended Governor Otti for his vision to transform Abia. He appealed for the Governor’s assistance in the realization of the Methodist Church University project, describing it as part of the Church’s long-standing tradition of pioneering educational, health, and social welfare institutions across Nigeria.
According to him, the proposed institution aligns with the Church’s mission of providing quality education while fostering the intellectual, moral, cultural, and spiritual development of young people.
He emphasized the need for a strong partnership with the Abia State Government to ensure the successful establishment of the university.
