Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has charged members of the G-7 Security Forum to strengthen collaboration and adopt innovative strategies in combating cross-border crimes within Abuja and neighboring states.
The G-7 Forum, established in 2007, comprises the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna, Benue and Plateau States, with a mandate to jointly address security threats in the region.
Speaking at the opening of the committee’s meeting on Thursday at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, Wike—represented by the FCT Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo—urged security stakeholders to “put on their thinking caps” and maximize synergy for effective results.
“The committee must deepen collaboration to guarantee the safety and security of Abuja and its surrounding states,” he said.
The Technical Committee, made up of Commissioners of Police, State Directors of Security and Commandants of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from member states, meets periodically to assess emerging threats and develop operational orders for endorsement by governors of the forum.
