The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has rolled out a revised Basic Education Action Plan (BEAP) template to enable states access about N68 billion in dormant funds earmarked for improving basic education across the country.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, disclosed this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while declaring open a training workshop for South-South State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEB) Directors and Desk Officers from the Department of Physical Planning.

Represented by her Special Assistant, Ibrahim Gold, Garba explained that the previous template had been in use for over two decades, creating bottlenecks that hindered states from accessing the intervention funds.

She said the revised template, unveiled in Makurdi on May 25, 2025, is designed to promote results-based planning, financial accountability, and a more streamlined process for fund utilisation.

According to her, the training is aimed at equipping participants with the tools and support systems needed to prepare effective action plans that align with the new model.

Garba stressed that the reform underscores UBEC’s commitment to strengthening the basic education sector and ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality learning opportunities.
