NABTEB Records Improved Performance, Lower Malpractice in 2025 NBC/NTC Exams

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the June/July 2025 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, showing marked improvement in candidates’ performance alongside a sharp decline in examination malpractice.

Announcing the results on Thursday in Abuja, NABTEB’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Aminu Mohammed, revealed that 92,875 candidates registered for the examinations, held nationwide between June 16 and July 17 across 1,892 centres. Of this figure, 89,621 candidates—representing 96.50 percent—were graded.

This year’s enrolment reflects a 37.08 percent rise compared to 67,751 candidates who sat for the 2024 examinations in 1,708 centres. Candidates were examined in 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 16 General Education Subjects.

On subject performance, Mathematics recorded significant improvement, with 81,172 of the 85,805 candidates passing, representing a 94.60 percent success rate. English Language also showed strong results, with 79,575 out of 85,476 candidates (93.10 percent) passing.

Dr. Mohammed noted that the results were an improvement over June/July 2024, where 44,000 candidates (65.34 percent) obtained five credits including English and Mathematics, while 62,235 (92.42 percent) secured five credits with or without the two core subjects.

He emphasized the need to strengthen technical and vocational education as a means of tackling youth unemployment and urged policymakers to prioritize skills acquisition.

On examination misconduct, 435 candidates were implicated in 516 cases—showing a considerable reduction from previous years.

The gender breakdown showed that 57,651 (62.07 percent) candidates were male, while 35,224 (37.93 percent) were female.
