The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced a ban on all social activities extending beyond 6 p.m. on its campuses.

In a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu, the university explained that the decision followed the tragic killing of businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, during a bonfire event organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies on September 12.

According to UNN, the event was hijacked by miscreants from a nearby community, leading to violence.

“From now on, all social gatherings must take place strictly during the day and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. No social activity of any kind will be allowed on campus beyond 6:00 p.m.,” the statement read.

The institution assured that it remains committed to safeguarding its community and will intensify efforts to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
