The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have issued a seven-day strike notice to the Federal Government over unresolved labor matters affecting non-academic staff.

In a joint letter dated September 12, 2025, and signed by SSANU President Muhammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi, the unions condemned the “unjust” disbursement of ₦50 billion earned allowances, non-payment of withheld salaries, delayed implementation of 25/35% salary increments, and stalled renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NASU-SSANU agreements.

The letter recalled a July 4, 2025, meeting with Education Minister Tunji Alausa, where it was agreed that a tripartite committee involving the Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU would resolve the disputes. However, the unions noted that no progress had been made since then.

They warned that if their demands are not addressed by Monday, September 22, 2025, members across universities and inter-university centres will embark on industrial action.

“Despite our repeated efforts to draw your attention to issues affecting our members, there appears to be nothing positive forthcoming from your office,” the statement read. “We are compelled to serve this seven-day notice, failing which we will be left with no option but to embark on strikes to press home our demands.”
