The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed the completion of Hajj fare refunds for 19 states from the 2025 pilgrimage, dismissing speculation of delays in reconciling accounts.

Deputy Director of Finance and Accounts at the Commission, Alhaji Rabiu Na’Allah, disclosed on Tuesday that all states which requested reconciliation of their pilgrims’ refunds have been fully settled as of September 10, 2025.

The clarification followed widespread reports suggesting that unsettled accounts from 2025 could hamper preparations for the 2026 Hajj.

NAHCON has faced scrutiny in recent months, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) investigating allegations of mismanagement, including the handling of a N90 billion Federal Government intervention for the 2025 Hajj. Two senior officials of the commission are currently being questioned over the matter.

In a rejoinder signed by Shafii Sani Mohammed of NAHCON’s Information and Publications Division, Na’Allah explained that refunds from previous years have also been cleared, except for states yet to initiate formal reconciliation with the commission.

“NAHCON has settled all matters relating to pilgrims’ refunds from the 2025 Hajj exercise as of September 10, 2025,” Na’Allah stated. “A total of 19 states that sought reconciliation have been duly refunded, while refunds from earlier years have also been addressed, except in cases where some states are yet to formally commence the process.”

The Commission emphasized that its priority now is preparations for the 2026 pilgrimage. It urged State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, Agencies, Commissions, and Licensed Tour Operators to remit Hajj fares promptly in line with the operational calendar of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

According to NAHCON, early payment is critical for securing accommodation, transportation, and other essential services in Makkah, Madinah, and the Mashā’ir (sacred sites).

“Timely remittances will ensure Nigeria secures necessary facilities, avoids last-minute challenges, and guarantees improved comfort and dignity for pilgrims,” the statement added.
