The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on Tuesday, September 16th, received in audience Nigerian international footballer and captain of the Super Eagles, Kenneth Omeruo, OON, MON, during a courtesy and working visit at the Government House, Umuahia.
Omeruo, who hails from Abia, was accompanied by his friend, the General Manager of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, Amobi Ezeaku Esq.
Governor Otti expressed appreciation to Omeruo for acknowledging the strides of his administration, assuring him of the State Government’s readiness to partner with him in his planned talent hunt initiative. The Governor noted that Abia youths are richly gifted in sports, academics, commerce, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and directed his team to work with Omeruo in designing a framework for the programme.
Earlier, Omeruo commended Governor Otti for restoring the dignity of Abians, saying he is proud of the Governor’s leadership. He revealed that he has been using his social media platforms to share positive developments from Abia and expressed his commitment to give back to society by launching a football talent hunt project in the state. The initiative, he explained, will identify young footballers and connect them to opportunities in major clubs, particularly in Europe.
In his remarks, Rangers’ General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, praised the quality of leadership with professional backgrounds now emerging across South-East states, describing it as a source of pride.
Also present at the meeting were the Chief Strategy Officer, Mr. Chinenye Mba Uzoukwu, the Technical Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Charles Egonye, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth, Comrade Onyebuchi Chukwu.
