Obi Slams Tinubu for Celebrating Revenue as Pensioners Languish

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for celebrating revenue targets while failing to pay pensions and gratuities to retired civil servants.

In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Obi stated it was unjust for the government to tout fiscal success as senior citizens, owed their entitlements, contemplate a nationwide protest.

He argued that pensioners who dedicated their productive years to the nation deserve prompt payment. Obi insisted that any excess revenue should be immediately channeled to settle these debts, thereby restoring dignity to retirees and assuring workers their service is valued.

Obi questioned the morality of celebrating revenue growth while pensioners remain unpaid, stating, “Revenue growth should first reflect in the lives of the people, especially those in difficult times.” He concluded that directing funds to this obligation is a matter of justice and good leadership, describing the current situation as “unjust and unacceptable.”
