The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has rejoiced with Mrs. Ifeoma Ehighibe, who recently delivered quadruplets at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, assuring the family of sustained support from her office.

Mrs. Ehighibe, a native of Umuabali, Umuokpara in Umuahia South LGA, who already had two children, welcomed three boys and a girl through a Cesarean Section last Thursday — a delivery many described as a rare blessing.

Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, Mrs. Otti said she immediately mobilized her team to ensure the mother and babies received proper care, describing the birth as “a miracle for the family and for Abia State.”

Acknowledging the current economic realities, the First Lady pledged continuous support to the Ehighibe family, stressing that raising six children would be no easy task. She assured that her office would stand by them beyond the hospital visit to ensure the children are raised successfully.

Mrs. Otti also urged husbands not to abandon their families in such circumstances, noting that her office is always open to support families blessed with multiple births.

Highlighting broader initiatives, the Governor’s Wife disclosed that crèche facilities have been established in some government offices, with more underway, to create baby-friendly environments for nursing mothers in the civil service. She encouraged mothers across the state to embrace exclusive breastfeeding as a key to healthy child growth.

She reiterated the administration’s commitment to smart health and social policies that positively impact citizens, while commending FMC workers for their efforts in ensuring safe deliveries.

Also speaking, the FMC Medical Director, represented by the Head of Nursing, Mrs. Nnenna Imo, commended Governor Alex Otti and his wife for prioritizing the welfare of women and for their consistent interventions in the hospital.

In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, described the visit as timely and impactful, bringing joy to the facility.

In an emotional response, Mr. Chibueze Ehighibe, father of the quadruplets and a staff of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for remembering his family, noting that while multiple births run in his family, this was the first recorded case of quadruplets.

The visit was rounded off with donations of baby clothes, diapers, food items, two bags of rice, household essentials, and cash to the Ehighibe family, while other nursing mothers at FMC also benefited from the First Lady’s generosity.
