Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has sworn in two new commissioners and a Special Adviser, urging them to bring renewed energy, commitment, and integrity to public service.
The appointees are Dr. (Mrs.) Salome Obiukwu, Commissioner for Trade and Commerce; Architect Chiemela Uzoije, Commissioner for Housing; and Prince Christian Enweremadu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti announced key cabinet adjustments. The former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Kingsley Nwokocha, now takes charge of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity. Similarly, the Ministry of Lands and Housing has been split into two, with Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije now serving as Commissioner for Lands.
Governor Otti explained that the changes were part of his administration’s strategy to inject fresh ideas and strengthen governance. While congratulating the appointees for successfully passing through rigorous screening, he reminded them of his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, stressing that anyone found wanting would face sanctions.
“There is practically no time for honeymoon,” the Governor said. “We expect you to hit the ground running, live above board, and understand that this is a call to serve, not an invitation to a banquet.”
Highlighting achievements recorded in his 28 months in office, including improvements in roads, security, education, and healthcare, Otti urged all appointees to work as a team to deliver quality leadership and tangible results for the people of Abia.
Responding on behalf of the new officials, Dr. Obiukwu thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that they would serve faithfully to the glory of God
