Zambian, South African Professionals Apply for Abia’s 771 Medical Jobs – Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has revealed that medical professionals from within and outside Nigeria have applied for the ongoing recruitment of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in the state.

Speaking with newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia, on Thursday evening during his monthly media chat, Otti disclosed that applications had been received from countries such as Zambia and South Africa, as well as from other states in Nigeria.

According to him, the interest shown by applicants outside Abia and beyond Nigeria underscores the confidence the wider community has in his administration.

The Governor reiterated that the recruitment of 771 medical professionals would be strictly based on merit, stressing that applicants would undergo different tests to identify the best candidates for the jobs.

He further announced that more Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) had been made functional across the state, with plans to provide accommodations for PHC medical staff to ensure effective 24-hour service delivery.

On agriculture, Otti told newsmen that his administration was supporting Abia farmers to transition from subsistence to commercial production, a move he said would also help reduce rural-urban migration. He noted that a technological system had been introduced to identify and monitor genuine farmers, with 45,000 farmers already enumerated.

The Governor also expressed satisfaction that all 33 courses at the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, which were previously withdrawn by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), had now been re-accredited.
