The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, has lauded the transformative leadership of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, describing it as a model of real and positive change across critical sectors of the state’s economy.
Ambassador Mills made the commendation during a courtesy visit to Governor Otti at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. He was accompanied by the U.S. Consul General, Ruth Swart, and other American diplomats.
Reaffirming the U.S. government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Abia, Ambassador Mills said their two-day working visit underscored Washington’s recognition of the reforms Otti’s administration is championing. He noted that Otti’s focus on economic growth, youth empowerment, and transparent governance aligns with U.S. values, making Abia a prime destination for investment.
“The United States sees tremendous opportunities in Abia and across the Southeast, and we are keen on building a stronger partnership to unlock the state’s full potential,” Ambassador Mills stated.
In his remarks, Governor Otti expressed delight over the visit, which he described as an endorsement of his administration’s “New Abia” vision. He thanked the delegation for engaging Aba’s business community, emphasizing that collaboration with the U.S. would add immense value to the state.
Highlighting Abia’s reputation as the SME capital of Nigeria, Otti praised the ingenuity of local entrepreneurs, particularly those in Ariaria International Market, and outlined reforms in healthcare, education, digital economy, and small businesses.
The governor noted that the increasing visits by diplomats, investors, and development partners reflect Abia’s new status as a state of dignity, progress, and economic viability since his administration came on board.
