Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has called on Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s current economic and social challenges as the nation marks its 65th independence anniversary.
Speaking at the independence day ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Otti congratulated Nigerians for their resilience and sacrifices, acknowledging the contributions of many who have shaped the country’s journey.
“We may not yet be where we want to be, but the truth is that we are no longer where we used to be,” he said. “So, while we continue striving toward our ultimate destination, none of us should lose hope.”
The Governor urged citizens to remain steadfast, stressing that brighter days lie ahead. “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. I challenge our people not to give up, because the best is yet to come,” he added.
Highlighting achievements in Abia State under his administration, Otti noted progress in education, healthcare, and security. He pointed out that schools are being renovated with more teachers deployed, while hospitals and primary healthcare centers are being functionalized.
On security, the Governor encouraged citizens to be vigilant and proactive. “If you see something, say something. Call the police, DSS, Army, or any security agency—or call me. We don’t sleep so that you can sleep,” he assured.
Governor Otti expressed gratitude to Abians for their support and commended security agencies for their commitment. “The service commanders God blessed us with in this state are hardworking and dedicated,” he said.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusigwe, and Hon. Dennis Chinwendu Rowland, who lauded the Governor’s performance and expressed confidence in his re-election bid come 2027.
While the event celebrated Nigeria’s independence, it also underscored the challenges ahead and the collective resolve needed to build a brighter future.
