The Oyo State Government has teamed up with the KAP Film & Television Academy, founded by renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, to introduce a 10-day intensive filmmaking residency programme.
The initiative, themed “Emerging Stories,” will run from October 6 to 15 at the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State—the same location where Netflix’s Aníkúlápó was filmed.
According to a statement released on Thursday, participants will undergo practical training in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and the business of film. They will also benefit from mentorship by industry icons such as Kunle Afolayan, Tunde Kelani, and Joke Silva.
“This residency goes beyond technical skills; it’s about building passion and discipline to thrive as a storyteller,” Afolayan stated.
Governor Seyi Makinde described the collaboration as part of the state’s broader strategy to empower young people and grow its cultural economy. He noted that the partnership with KAP Academy would “open up new opportunities for youths while positioning Oyo State as a creative and innovative hub.”
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, added that participants from across the state were fully prepared for the training.
Since its establishment in 2021, the KAP Film & Television Academy has trained over 40,000 students across Africa through various courses, residencies, and masterclasses, making it one of the continent’s leading film training institutions.
