First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to unite in empowering girls across the country to achieve their full potential and actively contribute to nation-building.

In a message to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated annually on October 11, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the need for collective efforts to dismantle barriers that hinder the progress of girls in Nigeria.

“Let us come together to support our girls to reach their maximum potential,” she said, noting that inclusive opportunities for girls are vital for national growth and sustainable development.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” the First Lady said the occasion highlights the struggles and resilience of girls who continue to thrive despite difficult circumstances.

She paid tribute to young girls who, in the face of adversity, continue to pursue education, fetch water for their families, and navigate displacement caused by conflict or crisis.
“To every brave girl striving to reach the classroom, walking miles for water, or carrying the quiet strength of displacement you are seen, you are heard, and you are valued. Your courage lights the way to a brighter future,” Mrs. Tinubu stated.

Reaffirming her commitment to championing initiatives that promote the welfare of girls, the First Lady stressed that investments in their education, health, and safety strengthen families and build a more equitable society.

“Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, let us remember the daily struggles of our girls,” she said, urging families, communities, and institutions to create safe and supportive spaces where girls can dream, learn, and lead.
