The Federal Government, in collaboration with national immunization partners, has launched a public awareness campaign to promote the newly introduced Integrated Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, now part of Nigeria’s routine immunization programme.

The initiative, flagged off with a road show and market sensitization in Abuja, aims to educate the public and ensure the vaccination of more than 100 million Nigerians, particularly children, against preventable diseases.

Measles, a highly contagious viral disease characterized by fever, rash, cough, and red eyes, can lead to severe and sometimes fatal complications if left untreated.

As part of the campaign, children aged 9 months to 14 years will also receive vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV) a major cause of cervical cancer as well as polio and other routine immunizations.

The awareness walk began at the Unity Fountain and moved through Wuse Market, drawing attention to the importance of vaccination in safeguarding child health. The event also underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen disease prevention and promote public health through immunization.
