The Department of State Services (DSS) has intercepted a large cache of sophisticated weapons in Delta State and arrested two suspects in connection with the discovery.
Although details of the operation remain sketchy, sources within the security agency confirmed that the raid followed weeks of intelligence gathering on the activities of a suspected gun-running syndicate operating in the Niger Delta region.
The weapons, which include assault rifles, ammunition, and other military-grade equipment, were reportedly seized during a coordinated operation in parts of Delta State.
The suspects, whose identities were not immediately disclosed, are currently in DSS custody and assisting investigators with vital information.
Security analysts have described the interception as a major breakthrough in the fight against arms proliferation and insecurity in the region.
The DSS is expected to issue an official statement on the operation in the coming days.
