Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Bala as the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Before his elevation, Dr. Bala served as the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Hospital Management Services Board, where he played a pivotal role in improving secondary healthcare delivery across the state.
Announcing the appointments, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, said the decision is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen leadership and consolidate achievements in the health sector, particularly after the successful hosting of the maiden Gombe State Health Summit.
According to Abdullahi, the recent approval and implementation of CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers, combined with Governor Yahaya’s wide-ranging health reforms, made it necessary to appoint a seasoned medical professional as Permanent Secretary to further drive progress in the sector.
In a related development, Governor Yahaya also approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, who previously served as the Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, as the new Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Services Board.
The statement noted that Dr. Abdulkadir brings vast experience in clinical practice, health administration, and policy implementation to his new role, positioning him to build on his predecessor’s achievements and enhance service delivery across hospitals in the state.
The government expressed confidence that both appointees would justify the trust reposed in them and contribute meaningfully to sustaining the administration’s ongoing health sector transformation.
The statement added that the appointments take immediate effect.
