The Abia State Police Command has dismissed reports aired by Arise TV alleging that community vigilante groups in parts of Aba and Ugwunagbo Local Government Areas killed several young men and adult males with the alleged backing of traditional rulers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 16, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command clarified that no such cases had been reported at its headquarters, area commands, or any divisional stations across the state. The Police also confirmed that no complaints related to the alleged killings were received via its hotlines, Complaint Response Unit, or verified social media platforms.

Despite debunking the reports, the Command announced the formation of a special investigation team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to thoroughly probe the allegations. Traditional rulers, vigilante heads, and youth leaders from Umuogele and Iheorji in Aba South LGA, as well as Nkpaevula in Ugwunagbo LGA, are currently being questioned in connection with the claims.

Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and maintaining peace across Abia State. He commended the ongoing cooperation between the Police, sister security agencies, and the Abia State Government, urging citizens to promptly report any threats or suspicious activities through official Police contacts.
