The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, has applauded Comrade Isaac Balami for establishing the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), describing it as a groundbreaking achievement that will further boost the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s popularity in Borno State.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the university, Keyamo commended Balami’s vision and resilience, noting that the new institution aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and educational reform agenda.
Keyamo recalled that Balami had shared his dream of founding a world-class aviation university shortly after he assumed office as minister. “The moment I was sworn in, Isaac Balami was one of the first to visit me. He spoke passionately about revolutionising the aviation sector, and today, we are witnessing the result of that dream,” Keyamo said.
He praised Balami’s determination and revealed that he had followed up on the project until it received full approval. “This achievement reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting private investment and human capital development — two key pillars of his five-point agenda,” the minister stated.
Keyamo described IBUAM as the first university in Africa to combine a flying school, aviation training programmes, and a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility within a single institution.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Askira Uba Federal Constituency, Hon. Midala Balami, described Isaac Balami as a symbol of perseverance and innovation. He said the university’s establishment had strengthened the APC’s presence in Borno and positioned President Tinubu for an easy victory in the 2027 elections.
“Congratulations to Isaac Balami for completing nearly half of the campaign work for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu through this historic project,” he said.
In his remarks, Comrade Isaac Balami expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Minister Keyamo, Captain Chris Najomo, and other supporters of the project. He explained that his decision to invest in Nigeria, despite opportunities abroad, stemmed from his belief in the country’s potential.
“The Isaac Balami University is not just another higher institutions it is an aviation hub designed to produce 21-year-old graduates ready to work globally without supervision,” he said.
Balami urged governments, ministries, and private organisations to provide scholarships for students, noting that proceeds from the university would be reinvested in society through his foundation.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced 100 scholarships for female students seeking admission into the university, stressing that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for gender inclusion and national development.
The event was attended by top dignitaries, including the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, senators, permanent secretaries, and industry leaders.
The university has invited candidates who scored 200 and above in the UTME to apply via www.ibuam.edu.ng, adding that several scholarships would be supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
