Former Senator Abbo Urges Political Leaders to Prioritise Youth Development

Former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Abbo, has called on political leaders and public office holders to invest in mentoring and empowering young people, stressing that leadership is a continuous process that depends on generational succession.

In a weekend statement, Abbo emphasised that the aides and young associates working closely with today’s politicians will eventually assume leadership roles in the future.

“These young boys and girls following us today will be the ones our children will follow tomorrow. Connect them to the top. The quality you instill in them now is what they will pass on to your children,” he said.

The former lawmaker noted that leadership operates in a cyclical pattern, those who serve current leaders will become leaders themselves, and the next generation, including politicians’ children, will depend on them.

According to him, neglecting the youth amounts to undermining one’s own legacy and future political relevance.

“They carry your files today, your children will carry theirs tomorrow. It’s an endless cycle. Build the youth, and you build your dynasty,” Abbo added.

His remarks come amid ongoing national discussions about youth inclusion in governance, leadership succession, and the need for sustainable political development in Nigeria.
