AIT Lagos Office Shuts Down Amid Financial Crisis and Operational Challenges

The Lagos branch of Africa Independent Television (AIT), one of Nigeria’s pioneering private broadcasters, has reportedly been shut down due to worsening financial and operational difficulties. Sources close to the development confirmed that the decision followed months of internal struggles to keep the station running efficiently.

Insiders revealed that the management of Daar Communications Plc — the parent company of AIT, RayPower FM, and Faaji FM — directed the shutdown after the cost of maintaining operations in Lagos became unsustainable. Persistent issues such as high maintenance expenses and delayed salary payments reportedly contributed to the decision.

Although AIT’s Lagos operations have been halted, sister stations RayPower FM and Faaji FM are said to remain on air and continue their regular broadcasts. The move, however, underscores the growing financial strain within the organization, which has been battling to stabilize its operations in recent years.

The closure represents a significant blow to AIT, which for decades maintained one of the most vibrant television bureaus in Lagos, serving as a vital hub for both national and international news production. As of the time of filing this report, Daar Communications Plc has yet to release an official statement addressing the shutdown.
