Presidential Aide Warns Sowore: “Court, Not Street Protests, Will Decide Nnamdi Kanu’s Fate”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has cautioned human rights activist Omoyele Sowore against attempting to influence court rulings through street demonstrations.

Dare issued the warning on Monday in reaction to the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest led by Sowore in Abuja, which demanded the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

According to Dare, justice must be pursued through lawful and judicial means, not by mobilizing public protests or making inflammatory statements that could heighten tension in the country. He emphasized that efforts to pressure the judiciary through demonstrations risk undermining public confidence in the nation’s legal system.

The presidential aide reiterated that Kanu’s case predates President Bola Tinubu’s administration and remains strictly a judicial matter. “Justice must come through the courts, not street protests over Nnamdi Kanu,” Dare stated. “You cannot use protests or civil unrest to demand the release of someone accused of terrorism and whose case is still in court — not even in America.”
