Tension gripped Tarabu village in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Wednesday when angry youths attacked top politicians and pelted vehicles in Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi’s convoy during a road project flag-off ceremony.

The incident occurred shortly after the governor inaugurated the 23.4-kilometre Tarabu–Gafta road as part of his citizens’ engagement programme. Several vehicles belonging to government officials and security operatives were reportedly damaged in the attack.

Among those who narrowly escaped harm were the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Alhaji Muhammad Maji, and the lawmaker representing Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Fulata.

Eyewitnesses said the mob action was provoked by frustrations over what the youths described as Fulata’s neglect of his constituency and failure to deliver meaningful development projects compared to neighbouring representatives.

Suspected Ritualist Escapes Mob in Same Community

In a separate development in the same area, a suspected ritualist identified simply as Malam narrowly escaped lynching after he was allegedly caught attempting to remove the eye of a corpse at a local cemetery.

A witness who spotted the act alerted residents, who quickly apprehended the suspect. He reportedly fled to the palace of the District Head of Kiri-Kasamma for safety, but irate youths pursued and beat him before security operatives intervened.

The mob also damaged a police vehicle used to convey the suspect, but officers later restored order and took him into custody for further investigation.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command for comment were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered.

Meanwhile, in Bauchi State, police have arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly gouging out his sister’s eyes for ritual purposes in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area. The suspect reportedly attacked his sister, Rukayya Muhammad, on October 17 in a failed attempt to use her body parts for money rituals.
