Nnamdi Kanu to Represent Himself as Lead Counsel Withdraws from Case

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has opted to represent himself in court following the withdrawal of his lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), and other members of his legal team.

At Thursday’s proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Agabi formally applied to withdraw from representing the separatist leader, informing the court that his team was stepping down after Kanu decided to personally take charge of his defence.

Following Agabi’s announcement, all other Senior Advocates on Kanu’s legal team also withdrew their appearances from the case.

Confirming the development, Kanu told the court that he had chosen to handle his own defence “for now,” though he noted that the decision might change in the future.

When the presiding judge asked if he wanted the court to assign a new lawyer, Kanu declined, insisting that he would continue without legal representation.

The courtroom session was calm but tense as observers watched the high-profile defendant assert his decision to proceed independently in the ongoing terrorism trial filed against him by the Federal Government.

Further details are expected as the court continues proceedings.
