7-Year-Old Faith Maiyaki Donates to Oluremi Tinubu Education Fund, Inspires Young Readers Nationwide

A seven-year-old pupil of Elpis Nursery and Primary School, Dutse, Jigawa State, Faith Maiyaki, has warmed the hearts of many Nigerians with her remarkable act of generosity and love for learning.

Inspired by the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund” a campaign initiated to mark the 65th birthday of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on September 21, 2025, Faith decided to make her own donation to support the supply of storybooks to the National Library. The initiative encourages Nigerians to contribute to literacy development rather than sending birthday gifts.

Faith first learned about the campaign through TV adverts on NTA and TVC, and for days, she eagerly insisted on contributing. On September 3, after hearing the advert again, she quickly wrote down the bank account details from the screen and asked her father to help transfer money from her clay savings. Her father obliged, sending the donation at exactly 10:08 p.m., a gesture that deeply thrilled the young booklover.

Not to be left out, Faith’s 10-year-old sister also donated minutes later. Both girls are passionate readers, Faith has read 68 storybooks since July 2024, while her sister has read more than 100 and enjoys writing short stories. Their shared love for reading is supported by their parents, who promote both academic learning and current affairs awareness at home.

Speaking about their contribution, the sisters said they wanted to help other children across Nigeria enjoy access to storybooks through the National Library. They also extended warm birthday wishes to the First Lady, praying for her continued health and success.

Their commitment to education goes beyond reading, on October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child, the sisters joined other young advocates at the Jigawa State House of Assembly for a symbolic plenary session, where girls took leadership roles and presented proposals to lawmakers.

Senator Tinubu’s Education Fund supports the construction of a modern National Library, which aims to enhance literacy, research, and digital learning opportunities across the country. The First Lady recently visited the Qatar National Library in Doha to gain insights for the project.

Faith Maiyaki’s touching story serves as a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to making a difference, her selfless act has not only contributed to a national cause but has also inspired hope for a new generation of readers and changemakers in Nigeria.
