170 Foreign Nationals Apply for Nigerian Citizenship — Minister Tunji-Ojo Confirms

Nigeria has received a total of 170 applications from foreign nationals seeking to become citizens of the country.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this in Abuja during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Nigerian Citizenship, which he chairs.

According to a statement signed by Mary Ali, Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations, the Minister reiterated that Nigerian citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and must be earned through integrity, good conduct, and a genuine commitment to the nation’s values.

Tunji-Ojo urged the committee to carefully assess each application to ensure only deserving individuals are granted citizenship. He also warned against attempts to acquire Nigerian citizenship through fraudulent or illegal means, emphasizing the importance of following due process in all migration-related matters.

Reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Minister noted that the committee’s work plays a vital role in advancing national integrity, security, and socio-economic progress.
