Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar is currently in stable condition in the hospital following a heart-related episode.
According to BBC Sport on Wednesday, the 34-year-old fell ill during routine pre-season fitness tests at São Paulo’s training centre on Tuesday. He received immediate medical attention from the club’s staff and on-site doctors.
Oscar, who returned to Brazilian side São Paulo in December 2024, where he began his career, was reportedly using an exercise bike when he collapsed and lost consciousness for two minutes, Brazilian outlet Globo reported.
The club released a statement saying: “Oscar experienced an incident with cardiological changes and was promptly attended to by the club’s professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita, present at the site. He was then taken to the hospital, where he is currently stable and under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.”
Globo also reported that Oscar is now considering retirement. He joined São Paulo on a three-year deal running until 2027 after an eight-year stint playing in China under the management of former Chelsea and Argentina striker Hernan Crespo.
