The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged residents, visitors, and business owners to remain vigilant as activities intensify across the state during the Ember Months. He noted that the period between September and December typically comes with increased commercial activities, heavy movement of people and goods, festive events, and a rise in opportunistic crime.

The advisory was issued in a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. The statement emphasised the need for heightened security awareness, stressing that the Ember Months often witness a spike in criminal activities due to the surge in human and economic activity.

CP Orutugu assured the public that the police remain committed to maintaining safety and order throughout the period. He disclosed that the Command has strengthened visibility policing, highway patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts. Joint security teams have also been deployed to public places, markets, worship centres, and major transit routes.

He advised residents to avoid unnecessary late-night movements, ensure proper security of their homes and business premises, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The CP also cautioned against reckless driving, excessive speeding, and drunk driving, urging motorists to service their vehicles and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.

The police further warned residents to be wary of online fraud, fake job offers, investment scams, and identity theft, which tend to increase during festive seasons. CP Orutugu reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and encouraged communities to collaborate closely with law enforcement to expose criminal elements.

He restated the Command’s readiness to address complaints of police misconduct and provide necessary security support. For emergencies, residents were encouraged to contact the Police Control Room via 07039194332 or reach other key units through the provided hotlines.

The statement concluded with a stern warning to criminals, stressing that the Command will not tolerate any unlawful activity during the season and that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
