A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges.

Justice delivered the ruling on Thursday, stating that the prosecution had successfully established its case against Kanu. The court held that the evidence presented showed his involvement in actions classified as terrorism under Nigerian law.

Kanu, who has faced a series of legal battles since his arrest and extradition in 2021, was brought to court under tight security. His legal team expressed strong dissatisfaction with the judgment and indicated plans to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal.

The Federal Government has not yet issued an official statement on the ruling, but the judgment is expected to generate significant reactions across the country, particularly in the South-East, where Kanu commands strong followership.
